Changes in the cost of food products in Russia are tracked via consumer price indices, which Rosstat has published monthly from January 1991 to December 2026. The table provides two methods for assessing dynamics: the ratio of current month prices to the previous month and the ratio to December of the previous year. These indicators allow for the assessment of both short-term fluctuations in food costs and the cumulative inflationary effect since the beginning of the year

How to read this table

The table rows are distinguished by the comparison base, which helps in analyzing different time intervals. The series relative to the end of the previous month shows the rate of price change for each specific month, while the series relative to December of the previous year provides insight into how much food products have increased or decreased in price since the start of the calendar year. Comparing these indicators is useful for identifying seasonal factors and the overall growth rate of the cost of the food basket in the country

What is visible in these numbers

Monthly observations, the set contains 432 observation periods. There are 464 values in the table out of 864 possible, which is 53.7%. There are many gaps: a significant part of the items were observed only in certain periods, and such series should be compared with caution

The figures will be useful for price list revisions, disputes with suppliers regarding indexation, and calculating real, rather than nominal, sales dynamics
