How has the consumer price index for food products in Russia changed over more than thirty-five years? The table contains two series of indicators: 'as a percentage of the previous month' and 'as a percentage of December of the previous year'. Each row reflects the index value at the end of the corresponding month. The observation range covers the period from January 1991 to December 2026, allowing for the analysis of both short-term and structural price changes. At the start of the series, the index in January 1991 was 104.6, and in July 2026 it reached 100.29, showing the dynamics over the entire period studied

How to read this table

Two rows of the table offer different ways to assess inflation: one shows the price change compared to the previous month, the other the accumulated result since the beginning of the calendar year. Comparing them is useful for analyzing seasonality and the general annual trend. In the first row, the index in January 1991 was 104.6, and in July 2026 it reached 100.29. These data help track the growth rates of the cost of the food basket in different time periods, from the beginning of the nineties to the present moment

What is visible in these numbers

Observations are monthly and cover 432 periods. Cells with numbers: 463 out of 864 (53.6%). A smaller part of the table is filled, so direct comparison of positions between periods may be misleading

The figures will be useful when revising the price list, disputing with a supplier about indexation, and calculating real, not nominal, sales dynamics

The information is useful for economists, market researchers, and anyone monitoring inflationary processes and food costs in the country. The data allow for the assessment of both monthly price fluctuations and the accumulated inflation level for each specific year, providing access to a complete statistical database on the food sector of the Russian economy

Source disclaimers: July 2026 as a percentage of December 2025. Please note that in January 1998, a redenomination was carried out, resulting in a 1,000-fold reduction in the price scale. Excluding statistical information for the Donetsk People’s Republic, the Luhansk People’s Republic, the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions
