Egg Prices in 2026 and Over the Years: How Much a Dozen Costs and Why the Price Fluctuates
As of October 12, 2026, a dozen chicken eggs costs an average of 105.63 rubles across Russia, one egg costs 10.56 rubles. A year ago, on October 13, 2025, a dozen cost 89.93 rubles, so it has risen by 17.5% over the year. For a family that consumes two dozen eggs a week, this is about 1,600 rubles extra per year. Below are Rosstat's weekly prices since 2022, an annual series from 2000, regional differences and an answer to whether eggs will keep getting more expensive. The charts open on the website in interactive form.
How Much Eggs Cost Now
Rosstat collects egg prices every week, so the latest figure is always no older than seven days. The last six weeks look like this:
| Date | Dozen, ₽ |
|---|---|
| September 7, 2026 | 95.18 |
| September 14, 2026 | 97.40 |
| September 21, 2026 | 99.58 |
| September 28, 2026 | 101.39 |
| October 5, 2026 | 103.41 |
| October 12, 2026 | 105.63 |
Each week the price increases by about two rubles. Since the start of the year the price has risen by 13%: on January 12, 2026 a dozen cost 93.49 rubles. The record is still far away. The highest price in the entire weekly series was on January 9, 2024, 133.96 rubles, the current price is 21.1% lower. And since January 2022, when the series begins, eggs have become 20.7% more expensive: back then a dozen cost 87.50 rubles.
Fresh figures for all 131 items are available in the Rosstat weekly price set, eggs are a separate line there.
Egg prices by week: winter peak and summer slump
The weekly chart clearly shows that egg prices move in waves. In winter and spring they rise, in summer they fall. In 2022 the summer minimum was 70.10 rubles on August 8. At the end of August 2025 a dozen cost 82.08 rubles, and by January 2026 it was already 93.49. In winter 2024 the price reached 133.96 rubles.
2026 repeated the pattern. From February 9 to April 13 the price rose from 95.59 to 114.91 rubles, a gain of 20.2% over two months. Then it fell and on August 3 reached 92.91 rubles, 19.1% below the spring peak. From August it rises again: 13.7% over ten weeks.
Rosstat publishes prices, not reasons, so I will not explain the rhythm. But the same shape repeats year after year, and this is visible directly on the chart.
Will egg prices keep rising?
Rosstat does not give forecasts, but past years suggest what to expect. In the winters of 2024 and 2025 the price rose above the autumn level: on January 22, 2024 a dozen cost 131.62 rubles, on January 27, 2025 it was 116.88. If the pattern repeats, by winter the price will stay above 105 rubles. How much higher will be shown by the weekly data, which are convenient to view in the set linked above.
Egg prices by year since 2000
If you look at the price at the end of the year, the picture is as follows:
| Year | Dozen, ₽ |
|---|---|
| 2000 | 16.57 |
| 2010 | 38.56 |
| 2018 | 68.97 |
| 2019 | 65.37 |
| 2020 | 75.78 |
| 2021 | 87.77 |
| 2022 | 81.70 |
| 2023 | 132.45 |
| 2024 | 116.71 |
| 2025 | 93.52 |
Over 25 years the price increased 5.6 times. The sharpest jump was in 2023: from 2020 to 2023 eggs became 74.8% more expensive, and 2023 ended at a record 132.45 rubles. Then two years of decline: by the end of 2025 the price fell 29.4% to 93.52 rubles.
It is important not to confuse the end‑of‑year price with the annual average. The average price for 2023 was 89.82 rubles, while in December of the same year a dozen cost 132.45. All the growth occurred in the second half of the year. Rosstat publishes average annual prices separately: in 2000 – 13.49 rubles, in 2010 – 34.17, in 2022 – 79.30, in 2023 – 89.82, in 2024 – 115.66. They are in the dataset "Average annual consumer prices for goods and services".
For comparison: data before 1998 in the set are given in the old, pre‑denomination rubles. The price of a dozen in 1997 is recorded as 5 687, and in 1998 already 14.94. These years cannot be compared without adjustment, so the series on the graph starts from 2000. The full series from 1991 is available in the average consumer price set.
Annual egg prices are also collected in the summary "Egg prices by year".
Egg Prices by Region
The price varies noticeably by region. According to data for August 2026, the average price for a dozen across Russia was 93.54 rubles. In the regions:
| Region | Dozen, ₽ |
|---|---|
| Penza Oblast | 60.83 |
| Altai Krai | 63.28 |
| Republic of Tatarstan | 72.42 |
| Sverdlovsk Oblast | 87.43 |
| Novosibirsk Oblast | 94.57 |
| Krasnodar Krai | 97.82 |
| Moscow | 117.91 |
| Saint Petersburg | 122.34 |
| Sakhalin Oblast | 182.84 |
| Magadan Oblast | 201.29 |
| Chukotka Autonomous Okrug | 246.24 |

The most expensive eggs are in the North and the Far East: Magadan Oblast, Sakhalin, Chukotka. Below the Russian average are prices in Penza Oblast, Altai, Tatarstan and Sverdlovsk Oblast. Prices for all cities and regions for August are in the "Average consumer prices and tariffs in August 2026" dataset, which also contains about 370 items.
How This Affects a Family Budget
Take a family of four that consumes two dozen eggs per week: fried eggs for breakfast, baking, salads. At today’s price of 105.63 rubles this is 211.26 rubles per week, or 10,985 rubles for 52 weeks. At the price of last October, 89.93 rubles, the same amount would have cost 9,353 rubles. The difference is 1,632 rubles per year.
This is a small share compared with other products. For comparison, see how the prices of potatoes, beef, sugar and oil have changed in a separate article "Food prices in 2026". There eggs rank among products that have become 15–32% more expensive over the year.
If you want to recalculate your amount with an overall inflation adjustment, use the inflation calculator. Monthly price indices for 2026 can be found on the page "Inflation in 2026".
