Perinatal mortality
Perinatal mortality reflects the level of loss of fetuses and infants in the first days of life. The presented set records the total number of deaths in the perinatal period, which in 1960 was 48883 persons. The indicator is calculated as the sum of stillbirths and children who died up to seven days after birth. The information allows assessment of child mortality dynamics and the effectiveness of maternal and child health protection at different stages of the state's development

How to read this table
The perinatal mortality rate reflects the intensity of events per one thousand live and stillborn births. In 1960 the rate for deaths up to seven days was 7.12. When analysing series, changes in definitions of live birth and criteria for registering infant mortality in different historical periods should be considered. Comparison of data by years, including 1965 and 1970, shows long‑term changes in newborn survival indicators

Period and application
The data cover the historical period starting from 1960 and are presented in the Demographic Yearbook of Russia 2023. The information is useful for medical professionals, sociologists, demographers and experts studying health care and population quality of life. Regular updates of the set enable tracking the historical retrospective and identifying long‑term patterns in the country's demographic statistics
