Multiple births

· snapshot · rows: 93 · periods: 4 · section: Demographic Yearbook (России. 2023)

Multiple births are cases of two or more children born from one pregnancy. The indicator includes the total number of births, including stillbirths, and separates births of three or more children into a distinct category. The data allow assessment of the dynamics of such events over time. Values are recorded nationwide, covering statistics from 1960 onward. Analysis helps understand demographic features of population reproduction and health‑care development across historical periods

How to read this table

Differences in table rows correspond to time periods for which birth indicators are recorded. Focus on comparing the total number of births with the number of multiple‑birth cases. This comparison reveals changes in the frequency of twins and higher‑order multiple pregnancies. The table shows how the number of births, including those of three or more children, has varied across years such as 1960, 1965 and 1980

What is visible in these numbers

What is measured: Number of births (including stillbirths); of which multiple births — with twins; of which multiple births — with triplets; of which multiple births — with a larger number

Cells with numbers 100 out of 100 (100%); there are practically no gaps in the data

Period and application

The information is taken from the Russian Demographic Yearbook 2023. It covers 93 data series reflecting the country's demographic development. Statistics are updated regularly in Rosstat’s annual publications. The dataset is used by demographers, sociologists and health‑care specialists studying reproductive health, planning maternity‑ward resources and developing social support measures for families with children
