One hundred fifty-five and a half thousand CIS students were enrolled in state and municipal universities and research organizations in Russia at the beginning of the 2023/2024 academic year. The statistics cover the period from the 2000/2001 academic year, allowing for the tracking of student influx dynamics from Commonwealth states. The indicator only includes those enrolled under general admission terms and is expressed in thousands of people to facilitate year-on-year comparisons of the total number of students

Period and application
Data is updated annually as part of the Rosstat statistical yearbook and reflects the state of the higher education system at the beginning of each academic period. This information is useful for migration researchers, education ministry officials, university rectors, and analysts studying Russia's international ties in human resource training. Current data for the 2023/2024 academic year complements long-term observation series accumulated since the early 2000s
