How to read this table

Different scientific fields can be compared by rows, which highlight broad fields of study: from mathematics and mechanics to computer sciences. This makes it possible to see which fields produce more or fewer postgraduate graduates and how the graduation structure has changed over four years. The 'Total' row shows the total number of graduates across all specialties, allowing for an assessment of the overall scale of scientific personnel training in the country

What is visible in these numbers

Five highest values: Total — Postgraduate graduates (15 453), Total — including those who defended dissertations (1 791), Computer science and engineering — Postgraduate graduates… (1 164), Biological sciences — Postgraduate graduates (818), Physics and astronomy — Postgraduate graduates (801). Gap between highest and lowest — 3 091 times. The top five account for 86.3% of the total across all items — distribution is heavily skewed toward the top

Observations are annual; total periods 4. 100 of 100 possible values filled (100%) — almost no empty cells remain

Period and application

This Rosstat statistics covers the period from 2019 to 2022, updated in 2023. The data shows postgraduate graduation trends by year, without breakdown by region or university. The information is useful for applicants, postgraduate students, academic supervisors, and educational organization staff to analyze trends in highly qualified personnel training

How it is calculated

Rosstat notes: Data are presented in accordance with the lists of specialties and fields of study approved by Order No. 1061 of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia dated 12 September 2013

1) Данные приведены в соответствии с перечнями специальностей и направлений подготовки, утвержденными приказом Минобрнауки России от 12 сентября 2013 г. No 1061.
