Incidence of HIV infection
New HIV infection cases were recorded in Russia from 2000 to 2023, as reflected in the annual statistics. The table rows present both the absolute number of diagnosed cases and the relative incidence rate per 100,000 population. This provides a view of the actual infection spread in the country, accounting for changes in population size. All values are provided by year, enabling the monitoring of the long-term epidemiological situation

Set in numbers
Coverage: 4 series, 2000 through 2023, 5 reporting periods. 20 values in total.
“total, persons – value” multiplied by 11.7 between 2000 and 2023: from 78,571 to 921,034.
All table numbers are series: 4

How to read this table
The choice of row depends on the analysis required: the total number of cases or the intensity of virus spread in the population. Rows with absolute numbers show the total volume of diagnosed cases per year, while rows calculated per 100,000 population allow for comparing incidence intensity regardless of total population size. Comparing these indicators helps to visualize the rate of infection spread across the population during different periods from 2000 to 2023
What is visible in these numbers
The largest value belongs to “total, persons – value” — 921,034; the smallest is “per 100,000 population — value” at 29.6. The gap between them is 31,116-fold.
The same indicator for other periods
These series cannot be stitched together Over the common period 2000 values diverge — Rosstat recalculated the indicator using a revised methodology. They cannot be combined into a single chart: a break would appear at the junction, which did not actually occur
| Indicator for 2000 | here | in the adjacent series | divergence |
|---|---|---|---|

Period and application
Data is updated as part of the preparation of the Statistical Yearbook of Russia. This information is used by public health specialists, medical organization analysts, and researchers studying the dynamics of infectious diseases. The figures in the table cover all years from 2000 to 2023, making them relevant for assessing long-term trends in HIV control throughout the Russian Federation
