Rows contain city names, such as Abakan, Almetyevsk, or Angarsk, allowing for comparison of population changes in each specific settlement over twenty-two years. The indicator is measured in thousands of people, covering all major urban centers in the country meeting the specified permanent population criterion

How to read this table
Cities can be selected via rows, which provide statistics for each location over the entire specified period. It is possible to compare both the rates of population growth or decline in a single city over two decades and to compare different cities against each other in a specific year. In 2002, Abakan had a population of 165 thousand people, and by 2024, this number changed to 186 thousand people. These data help visualize the demographic situation in Russia's largest urban agglomerations without additional processing of indicators

Period and application
Statistics are prepared based on the Russian Statistical Yearbook for 2025. The data are relevant for researchers, demographers, and those studying population distribution across the country. Information is presented as annual snapshots, simplifying the tracking of long-term changes in the population of each city included in the list
1) Данные приведены: 2002 г. – по переписи населения на 9 октября, 2010 г. – по переписи населения на 14 октября, за остальные годы – оценка на 1 января соответствующего года.
2) Информация на 1 января 2025 г. временно не публикуется в соответствии с частью 10 статьи 5 Федерального закона от 29 ноября 2007 г. No 282-ФЗ «Об официальном статистическом учете и системе государственной статистики в Российской Федерации».
3) Данные по городу Балашиха приведены с учетом изменения его границы в 2015 году в соответствии с законом Московской области от 30 декабря 2014 года N 208/2014-ОЗ с изменениями от 13 апреля 2015 года N 52/2015-ОЗ.
4) Данные по городу федерального значения Москве приведены с учетом изменения его границы с 1 июля 2012 года в соответствии с постановлением Совета Федерации Федерального Собрания Российской Федерации от 27 декабря 2011 г. No 560-СФ.
