Fresh water consumption by type of use, 2000–2024

· snapshot · rows: 8 · periods: 6 · section: Russian Statistical Yearbook (2025)

Annual freshwater consumption volumes in the country were recorded from 2000 to 2024. Indicators are divided into three key groups: total use, irrigation and agricultural water supply, and industrial needs. This allows for tracking changes in water resource requirements across different economic sectors over twenty-five years. Total values were 66.9 in 2000 and decreased to 50.7 by 2024, reflecting the overall water consumption dynamics across the country

How to read this table

Rows group data by type of use, helping to compare the pressure on water resources from agriculture and industry. By comparing series, one can see the share of total freshwater withdrawal used for irrigation versus the portion used for industrial needs. This level of detail by type of activity illustrates the distribution of water resources in the economy, allowing for an assessment of consumption scales in each specified sector for any year in the period under review

What is visible in these numbers

The table is 83% filled: Rosstat does not publish every cell, and the gaps are left as they are rather than interpolated.
