How to read this table

The row breakdown is based on the administrative-territorial structure, where each row corresponds to a specific constituent entity or federal district. Comparing indicators is facilitated by the population density rank assigned to each region to illustrate its position in the overall list. This allows for quick identification of the most densely populated territories versus those with the lowest population concentration per unit area, despite their large landmasses

What is visible in these numbers

Table columns: Territory area; thousand sq. km (according to Rosreestr data); Rank of the subject's territory in relation to the territory:; Specific weight of the subject's territory in the total territory (%); Population density, persons per 1 sq. km; Rank of the subject's population density in relation to population density:

Out of 125 possible values, 125 are filled (100%); there are practically no gaps in the data

Period and application

Current information on territorial structure and demographic characteristics is useful for analysts, geographers, and anyone studying regional population distribution. Rosstat regularly updates data to reflect the current population density in each constituent entity of the country. The table serves as a reference for assessing the demographic potential of territories without accounting for specific time periods, providing a single snapshot of the current state of the administrative division of the Russian Federation

How it is calculated

Where people move, demand for housing, schools, and retail follows a few years later. In these rows, such movement is visible earlier than in revenue
