How to read this table

Comparing regions is made possible through population density ranking, where each constituent entity is assigned an ordinal number. Table rows are divided by federal districts and the oblasts, krais, and republics within them, helping to visualize population distribution across specific parts of the country. The land area indicator allows for comparing regional sizes, while the population density rank clearly demonstrates which entities are most densely populated relative to other territories in Russia

What is visible in these numbers

Table columns: Territory area; thousand sq. km (according to Rosreestr data); Rank of the subject's territory in relation to the territory:; Specific weight of the subject's territory in the total territory (%):; Population density, persons per 1 sq. km; Rank of the subject's population density in relation to population density:

Out of 125 possible values, 125 (100%) are filled, meaning the table is almost entirely complete

Period and application

Statistical data on regional density and area are useful for geographic research and analysis of demographic load on the territory. This data is not tied to a specific period and represents a snapshot of current information published by Rosstat as Rosreestr data is updated. This information is useful for geographers, regional development researchers, and anyone studying the administrative-territorial structure of the Russian Federation based on official figures

How it is calculated

Population size and migration flows are used in the placement of production facilities and chain retail, labor market assessment, and housing construction planning
