Russia's GDP by year

214 261 bn RUB, 2025 +11 941 to 2024

Gross domestic product is the value of everything produced in the country over a year. Rosstat calculates it in current prices, i.e. in rubles of the year for which it is calculated. Therefore, the series grows both when the economy adds value and when goods simply become more expensive: from 1995 to 2025, the figure increased from 1.4 to 214 trillion rubles, and most of this growth is inflation, not production.

The series is compiled from two Rosstat tables: up to and including 2011, and from 2012 onwards. There is no gap in values; the division is purely editorial.

Before 1998, Rosstat published the indicator in trillions of non-denominated rubles. After the redenomination, 1,000 old rubles became 1 new ruble, and the figures in the series are comparable without recalculation: one trillion old rubles equals one billion new rubles.

To understand whether the economy grew physically, this series is not sufficient; the index of physical volume of GDP is needed. It shows changes in output at constant prices. In current prices, a decline in production may appear as growth if prices rose faster.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Russia's GDP?

According to Rosstat data for 2025, Russia's gross domestic product in current prices amounted to 214.3 trillion rubles. The previous year it was 202.3 trillion rubles.

Why does Russia's GDP in rubles grow every year?

The indicator is calculated in the prices of the current year, so it includes inflation. Even with unchanged production, the ruble value will grow as long as prices rise. Real dynamics are shown by the index of physical volume.

What is included in GDP?

The value added created by all producers within the country, plus product taxes minus subsidies. In simpler terms, it is the value of final goods and services, excluding double counting of raw materials and components.
