Grain harvest in Russia by year

145,0 million tonnes, 2023 −12,7 to 2022

Annual production of grain and legume crops — wheat, barley, corn, rye, oats, peas and others combined. Measured by weight after processing, i.e., after cleaning and drying, not by bunker weight usually reported in news during harvest.

A difference of twenty million tonnes or more between adjacent years reflects weather, not changes in agriculture: the droughts of 2010 and 2012 are clearly visible in the series.

Bunker weight reported during harvest is higher than post‑processing weight by several percent. They should not be compared.

The series is taken from the collection “Russia and the World”, published annually, therefore the last two harvests appear with a delay.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much grain is harvested in Russia per year?

The latest value in the table above, in million tonnes measured after processing.

Why does the figure differ from what was in the news?

News during harvest usually cite bunker weight — before cleaning and drying. Rosstat’s final figure is lower.

How much of this is wheat?

About half or more. Wheat is the main crop, but this series includes all grains and legumes.
