Areas of winter crops used for green fodder, silage, or grazing and subsequently sown with spring crops are reflected in the catch crops indicator. Rows vary by geographic coverage: data is presented for all of Russia, federal districts, and individual regions, allowing for a comparison of land-use intensity. The statistics cover 2020 and 2021, and national values changed from 4.393 to 8.911
Chart of winter crop areas for spring sowing used for fodder, silage, or grazing, 2020–2021, catch crops
The list presents forty-eight rows grouping all categories of farms at different levels—from the national scale to specific regions. Comparing rows helps to understand the distribution of catch crop practices between central regions and national averages. The unit of measurement is catch crops, with data collected as part of annual agricultural monitoring
What is visible in these numbers
The largest value belongs to “Северо-западный федеральный округ — хозяйства всех категорий” — 1,000 million intermediate crops; the smallest is “Sakhalin Region — households of all categories” at 0.01 intermediate crops. The gap between them is 100 billion-fold.
The table is 96% filled: Rosstat does not publish every cell, and the gaps are left as they are rather than interpolated.
