The number of goats in farms of all categories at the end of 2021 and 2022 is presented in this report. Rows cover the Russian Federation, each federal district and all subjects of the country separately, allowing comparison of the herd in different parts of the state. This sample reflects the state of livestock farming for the last two years, showing the scale of changes in goat breeding at the level of individual oblasts, krais and republics
Chart of goat numbers in the Russian Federation at the end of 2021 and 2022 by region
Rosstat data for 2021–2022. Rows: 357, periods: 2. Breakdown by items: RUSSIAN FEDERATION — value; RUSSIAN FEDERATION — Agricultural organisations; RUSSIAN FEDERATION — Household plots; RUSSIAN FEDERATION — Peasant (farm) households …; CENTRAL FEDERAL DISTRICT — value and others
Bryansk Region — Agricultural organisations: indicator grew from 0.01 to 1 000 million in 2021–2022 — by 200 billion times. Of the 25 largest rows, 6 increased, 19 decreased
Rows contain data for the subjects of the Russian Federation, federal districts and the country as a whole, making it easy to compare them for assessing the geographic distribution of the herd. Each column corresponds to a specific year, helping to track changes in goat numbers in each region over the period. Compare the subjects' figures to identify the main goat‑breeding zones and herd dynamics within particular administrative boundaries
What is visible in these numbers
Five largest values: Bryansk Region — Agricultural organisations (1 000 million), Bryansk Region — Peasant (farm) households (1 000 million), RUSSIAN FEDERATION — value (1 811), RUSSIAN FEDERATION — Household plots (1 439), CENTRAL FEDERAL DISTRICT — value (244.2). Gap between largest and smallest — by 41.7 billion times. The top five account for 100% of the total across all items — distribution is heavily skewed toward the top
Annual observations, 2 periods in the dataset. Of 50 possible values, 50 (100%) are filled — gaps are virtually absent
These series cannot be stitched together Over the common period
2021 values diverge — Rosstat recalculated the indicator using a revised methodology. They cannot be combined into a single chart: a break would appear at the junction, which did not actually occur

The information covers 2021 and 2022, allowing assessment of the sector’s condition during this period. Data are updated annually as Rosstat releases new figures. This reference material is useful for agri‑industrial specialists, agricultural analysts and students studying regional economics and livestock production
How it is calculated
This year’s harvest and livestock determine next year’s procurement prices: processors need such rows earlier than supplier price lists
