How to read this table
Table rows are organized geographically, including figures for the Russian Federation, federal districts and entities such as Belgorod Oblast. Comparing the rows helps identify regions with the largest horse populations in large farms and track changes in animal numbers in each over the two‑year period. The split by federal districts and oblasts makes it possible to see the scale of horse breeding in specific parts of the country, excluding small holdings
What is visible in these numbers
Five highest values: Russian Federation — Adult stock (36,684), Russian Federation — Young stock (24,551), Russian Federation — Horses aged 4… (21,967), Russian Federation — Mares (21,651), Russian Federation — Working horses (16,282). The gap between the highest and lowest is 1,079 times. The top five account for 88.2% of the total across all positions — the distribution is heavily skewed toward the top
Observations are annual and cover 2 periods. Cells with numbers: 50 out of 50 (100%), meaning the table is almost completely filled

Period and application
The statistics cover 2023 and 2024 and are updated annually based on reports from agricultural organizations. This information is useful for agrarian sector specialists, livestock researchers and government officials analyzing the state of agriculture in the regions. Rosstat produces this report to monitor herd sizes in large enterprises, excluding small businesses, which is important for assessing the industrial potential of horse breeding
How it is calculated
This year’s harvest and stock determine next year’s procurement prices: processors need such rows before the supplier’s price list
