Greenhouse gas emissions related to waste

· dynamics annual · rows: 4 · periods: 12 · section: Environment

Annual greenhouse gas emissions in CO2 equivalent from waste management in Russia from 2005 to 2023. Rows are categorized by management type: total, landfilling of solid waste, and biological treatment of solid waste, showing the contribution of each method. The indicator is measured in million tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year, presented as an annual series covering the entire country

How to read this table

The row breakdown allows for comparing the contribution of solid waste landfilling and biological treatment to total emissions. Comparing annual figures tracks changes in atmospheric load from different waste disposal methods. The total emissions for the period include all waste management activities listed

What is visible in these numbers

“Total” leads the table with 87.9, “biological treatment of solid waste” closes it with 0.636. The gap between them is 138-fold.

Period and application

From 2005 to 2023, Rosstat records emission volumes in million tonnes of CO2 equivalent. This data is useful for ecologists, waste management specialists, and those analyzing climate change and the national environmental situation to assess the impact of waste on the atmosphere over nearly two decades. Data is updated annually, enabling monitoring of current trends in this field
