Graduates from doctoral programs by groups of scientific specialties
in the reporting year, persons
The number of doctoral graduates in Russia from 2022 to 2025 is presented here by field of study. The rows include specific groups, such as chemical technologies or information technologies and telecommunications, as well as the total number of graduates. This allows for an understanding of which scientific fields produce the most doctors and how graduates are distributed across specialties. The indicator is measured in persons per reporting year and covers all doctoral programs in the country, providing a breakdown by each field of study
- Total — of which with thesis defence
- Economics — Doctoral graduates
- Power engineering and electrical engineering — Doctoral graduates
- Law — Doctoral graduates
- Electronics, photonics, instrument engineering and communications — Doctoral graduates
- Chemical technologies, materials science, metallurgy — Doctoral graduates
- Information technologies and telecommunications — Doctoral graduates
- Physical sciences — Doctoral graduates
- Economics — including those who defended their thesis
- Agricultural engineering and food technologies — Doctoral graduates

Set in numbers
Rosstat data for 2022–2025. Rows: 66, periods: 4. Unit of measurement — in the reporting year, persons. Breakdown: Total — Graduates from doctoral studies; Total — of which with thesis defence; Physical sciences — Graduates from doctoral studies; Chemical sciences — Graduates from doctoral studies; Biological sciences — Graduates from doctoral studies and others
Total — Graduates from doctoral studies: the indicator rose from 73 to 316 in 2022–2025 — by 4.33 times. Highest value — 316 (2025), lowest — 73 (2022). Of the 24 largest rows, 24 increased, 0 decreased
All table numbers are series: 66
How to read this table
Thirty-four rows provide a detailed view of the graduation structure, from the national total to specific scientific groups. By comparing values across rows, one can identify leading fields in the training of highly qualified personnel. For example, graduation rates in metallurgy and materials science can be compared with those in telecommunications. The difference between the total row and individual groups shows the share of each specialty in the total number of doctoral graduates per year
What is visible in these numbers
Five highest values: Total — Graduates from doctoral studies (316), Total — of which with thesis defence (85), Economics — Graduates from doctoral studies (48), Power engineering and electrical engineering — Graduates from doctoral studies (22), Law — Graduates from doctoral studies (21). The gap between the highest and lowest is 105.3 times. The top five account for 71.3% of the total across all items — the distribution is heavily skewed toward the top
Observations are annual, the dataset contains 4 periods. Of 100 possible values, 100 (100%) are filled — almost no empty cells remain

Period and application
The statistics cover the period from 2022 to 2025. Rosstat updates this data annually, adding current figures for each scientific group. This information is useful for university administrators, officials from ministries of education and science, and labor market researchers in high-level science. The data helps assess the rate of doctoral training across various sectors and assists in long-term human resource planning for the country
How it is calculated
Such rows are needed not only by those who sell education itself but everything around it: from textbooks to student housing rentals
