The Gini coefficient does not adequately capture the highest incomes: they are rarely included in surveys.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Gini coefficient in Russia?

The latest value is in the table above. The closer to one, the more unevenly income is distributed.

Is this high or low?

Around 0.4 is a level of noticeable inequality. Scandinavian countries have a coefficient below 0.3.

How does the Gini coefficient differ from the fund coefficient?

The fund coefficient compares only the extreme groups: how many times higher the income of the top 10% is compared to the bottom 10%. The Gini coefficient accounts for the entire distribution.
