Differences between rows follow categories of language proficiency and ethnic affiliation, allowing comparison of language prevalence among different ethnicities. One can compare figures within a single ethnicity as well as overall numbers for the republic to see which languages are most common among residents. Each row contains the exact number of people who indicated a particular language or the total size of groups, providing a detailed view of the linguistic situation in the region at the time of the survey

Period and application
The information is based on the results of VPN‑2020 and represents a one‑time snapshot without yearly breakdowns. The data will be useful for linguists, demographers and researchers studying the ethnic composition of the Komi Republic. The figures were published by Rosstat in volume five of the census results, dedicated to the ethnic composition and language proficiency of the population

Census results on ethnic composition and languages are used for planning the school teaching of native languages, assessing the need for translation of public services, and in ethnographic research
