How to read this table
Table rows are categorized by languages for which proficiency and usage were measured. Some languages are listed only under "reported proficiency," while others are also included under "use in daily life." This helps determine the practical demand for each language beyond mere knowledge. For rare languages, such as Abazin, the figures may be minimal, but the table includes all records without exception
What is visible in these numbers
Set indicators: Urban and rural population — Number of persons proficient in the correspond…; Urban and rural population — of them use it in daily…; Urban population — Number of persons proficient in the corresponding languag…; Urban population — of them use it in daily life; Rural population — Number of persons proficient in the corresponding language; Rural population — of them use it in daily life
Cells with numbers 100 out of 150 (66.7%). There are many gaps: a significant part of the items were observed only in separate periods, and such series should be compared with each other cautiously

Period and application
The 2020 All-Russian Population Census serves as the basis for this data. No updates are expected as this is a one-off snapshot. The material is useful for language statistics specialists, migration and cultural process researchers, and those studying the multi-ethnic composition of Saint Petersburg
How it is calculated
The linguistic composition of the region directly affects the language used for signage, interfaces, and support
