Language proficiency and language use among the population of Moscow
Based on the 2020 All-Russian Population Census, the data shows how many Moscow residents reported proficiency in each of 257 languages and how many actually use them in daily life. For each language, two columns are provided: the number of proficient speakers and the share of those who speak it at home or at work. Data is broken down by urban and rural population, allowing for a comparison of language proficiency and usage across different parts of the city

The results were obtained during the 2020 All-Russian Population Census and reflect the linguistic situation in Moscow at the time of the census. This data is useful for linguists, sociologists, and education specialists analyzing the capital's linguistic environment. The information is also relevant for researchers of the city's cultural and ethnic diversity and population integration
How it is calculated
Census results on ethnic composition and languages are used for planning the school teaching of native languages, assessing the need for translation of public services, and in ethnographic research
