Differences between rows allow comparison of the total size of ethnic groups with the actual level of language proficiency. By comparing the figures one can see what share of a people retains linguistic identity and what share has shifted to Russian. Each ethnicity is presented in a separate row, enabling detailed study of the situation for specific population groups in the region

What is visible in these numbers

The table is 17% filled: Rosstat does not publish every cell, and the gaps are left as they are rather than interpolated.

The information is based on the results of the 2020 All‑Russian Population Census. The data are current as of the survey and contain no longitudinal series. The statistics will be useful for ethnographers, sociologists and representatives of national communities analyzing the language situation in Irkutsk Oblast
