How to read this table
The data allows for a comparison of the proportion of each ethnic group that retains its native language versus those who have shifted to Russian. This provides insight into the linguistic situation within each ethnic group at the city level. The data is presented in absolute numbers and reflects a single snapshot from the census results
What is visible in these numbers
Cells with numbers 162 out of 1 000 (16.2%). Data are sparse — for many positions, observations were not conducted for the entire period, and aggregate totals for them should not be calculated
The linguistic composition of the region directly affects the language used for signage, interfaces, and support

Period and application
The information is published as part of the fifth volume of the 2020 All-Russian Population Census results. It is relevant for demographers, ethnologists, and sociologists studying the ethnic composition and linguistic environment of the metropolis. The data does not require annual updates as it is based on the results of a comprehensive state survey
