Number of people of each indigenous small-numbered ethnicity residing in the Chelyabinsk region according to the 2020 All-Russian Population Census, and the native language they identified. Separate rows provide the total population of each ethnicity, the number of those who specified a native language, and those who identified Russian. Ethnicities are listed alphabetically, from Abazins to Yukaghirs, showing which peoples are represented by individuals and which by small groups. The data is a snapshot, without annual breakdowns

Within each row group, the total number of ethnic group members can be compared to the number of those who actually use their native language. This allows for an assessment of the proportion of language speakers within each ethnic group and shows how frequently Russian is chosen as the primary language. The data is structured to correlate ethnic identity with individual linguistic self-identification

What is visible in these numbers

The table is 20% filled: Rosstat does not publish every cell, and the gaps are left as they are rather than interpolated.

Period and application

Information is based on the 2020 All-Russian Population Census results and reflects the situation at the time of the census. Data for the Chelyabinsk region is useful for ethnographers, sociologists, and representatives of national communities studying the linguistic situation in the region. The statistics represent a single point in time, with no possibility of tracking changes over time
