Response options of the Russian population regarding ethnic identity
The 2020 census question on national identity yielded 1,656 response options. For each option, the table provides two figures: the number of people who listed that nationality among all responses and the number who specified it as their sole or primary identity. These data help identify which identities are most often cited independently and which appear in combination with others in Russians' self-identification

For each row, two indicators are shown: the total number of responses mentioning that nationality and the number of responses where it was the sole or primary identity. Comparing these figures reveals how frequently each identity is used independently or in combination with others

Period and application
The table is compiled using materials from the 2020 All-Russia Population Census. It provides a one-time snapshot of opinions without temporal development. Such data are useful for ethnographers, demographers, and anyone analyzing the ethnic and cultural landscape of modern Russia
