Twenty-nine percent of Russians were systematically engaged in sports in 2014, and by 2022 this figure reached 52.9 percent. Changes are recorded annually for the whole country and separately for each of the 85 subjects listed. Comparing rows helps assess how population involvement in an active lifestyle is distributed across Russia and what growth rates are observed in individual regions over the nine years of observation

How to read this table

Eighty-six rows combine national totals with breakdowns by specific regions, such as Belgorod or Bryansk. By comparing data across rows, it is easy to see the difference between regions in a given year or track the individual trajectory of sports development in a selected subject. All values are presented in percent, allowing for direct comparison of territories with different population sizes without additional calculations

What is visible in these numbers

Five highest values: Tambov Region (62.3), Belgorod Region (58.7), Voronezh Region (56.3), Tula Region (56), Vladimir Region (55.8). The top five account for 22.1% of the total sum across all positions

Observations are annual, the dataset contains 9 observation periods. There are 225 values in the table out of 225 possible, which is 100% — almost no empty cells remain

Period and application

Current data for the period from 2014 to 2022 are updated annually by Rosstat as part of the monitoring of sustainable development goals. The information will be useful to social sphere researchers, representatives of regional agencies, and anyone analyzing population coverage of sports activities. The series includes data for the Russian Federation and its subjects, providing a complete picture of physical culture development at all levels of government administration

How it is calculated

Such data are needed when a figure in a presentation has to be defended with a reference to an official source
