How to read this table

The rows in the list are organized hierarchically: from the total figure for the entire Russian Federation to the level of federal districts and specific regions. This breakdown helps to compare the population size in large districts with the number of residents in smaller regions. All values are provided in thousands of people, which is convenient for a quick comparison of the scale of residency at different administrative levels

What is visible in these numbers

Five highest values: Russian Federation (147 708), Central Federal District (40 380), Northwestern Federal District (13 956), Moscow (13 060), Moscow Region (8 567). Gap between highest and lowest — 3 508 times. The top five account for 90.8% of the total across all positions — distribution is heavily skewed toward the top

Observations are annual and cover 4 periods. Cells with numbers: 100 out of 100 (100%), i.e., the table is almost entirely filled

Period and application

The statistics cover the period from 2010 to 2022 and are published by Rosstat in an annual format. This information allows for tracking how the number of people in different subjects changed over twelve years. The data will be useful for demographers, economists, sociologists, and anyone planning urban infrastructure development or business expansion while considering the actual number of residents in specific parts of the country. Annual data helps identify long-term trends in population distribution across the territory

How it is calculated

Trade indicators are used to assess market capacity, plan inventory levels, and compare regions by purchasing power
