Water resource use: abstraction, consumption and losses

· dynamics annual · rows: 5 · periods: 5 · section: Environmental protection (в России. 2024)

Annual volumes of water withdrawn from natural sources, freshwater use, and transmission losses across Russia are shown for the 2019–2023 period. Rows are categorized by use type, illustrating the relationship between withdrawal, consumption, and losses, as well as changes in these volumes. Data are provided in billion cubic meters as an annual series covering the entire country without regional or sectoral breakdowns

Set in numbers

The table holds 5 series, running from 2019 to 2023, 5 reporting periods. 25 values in total.

Between 2019 and 2023 “Забор воды из природных водных объектов для использования” declined from 59.9 to 58 — 3.2%. The lowest value in the series is 54.5 in 2020.

All table numbers are series: 5

How to read this table

The distinction between rows allows for assessing water use efficiency by comparing water withdrawal from natural bodies with actual freshwater consumption and accounting for transmission losses. These three parameters indicate the proportion of withdrawn water that reaches the end consumer. Values can be compared within a single year to observe the loss structure, or across years to track national trends

What is visible in these numbers

The largest value belongs to “Оборотное и последовательное использование воды” — 148; the smallest is “Потери воды при транспортировке” at 6.9. The gap between them is 21.5-fold.
