Specially protected natural areas in Russia in 2017
As of 2017, 11,939 sites with a total area in hectares comprise the country's specially protected natural areas. Data are reported using three main indicators: number of units, area occupied at the end of the reporting year, and maintenance costs in thousands of rubles. The breakdown of data by administrative level, from federal to local, allows for comparing the scale of conservation efforts across different categories of territories and assessing the financial burden on each within the framework of national environmental objectives

How to read this table
Table rows are grouped by key parameters for assessing the status of protected zones, enabling a comparison of not only physical indicators, such as hectares or units, but also economic aspects. By comparing column values, the differences between federal, regional, and local level sites can be observed, including the total for protected areas. This allows for an analysis of the nature conservation system's structure, identifying the share of natural territories at each administrative management level
